Perkembangan Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri (SMAN) Olahraga Sidoarjo dan Kontribusi Perolehan Prestasi Terhadap Provinsi Jawa Timur Tahun 2000-2018

Abstract

Responding to the need for an educational institution capable of integrating sports achievement development with formal education, the East Java Provincial Government established Sidoarjo State Sports Senior High School (SMAN Olahraga Sidoarjo) as a specialized school for student-athletes. This study aims to analyze the development of SMAN Olahraga Sidoarjo from 2000 to 2018 and its contribution to the sporting achievements of East Java. The novelty of this study lies in analyzing the relationship between institutional changes, facility development, athlete training systems, and the achievements of East Java student-athletes. This study employs a historical method with a qualitative approach through the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentary studies, then analyzed using Kurt Lewins organizational change theory, consisting of unfreezing, changing, and refreezing stages. The findings indicate that SMAN Olahraga Sidoarjo experienced significant development since its establishment in 2000, particularly following its institutional transformation into a Technical Implementation Unit (UPT), which encouraged improvements in facilities, school management, and sports training systems. Academic curricula were integrated with training programs through adjusted learning schedules and coordination between teachers and coaches. These developments contributed to improved achievements among student-athletes representing East Java at provincial, national, and international competitions, strengthening the schools strategic role in athlete development and regional sports achievement.
