Abstract

The Indonesian economy in 2024 grew by 5.05 percent in the second quarter of 2024 after only growing by 5.04 percent in the previous year, due to strong growth in physical investment and exports. An economy that grew by 0.01 percent in 2024 with inflation of 2.75 percent in February with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 105.58 is certainly not in a crisis. However, the "total loss of investor confidence" has not recovered due to political uncertainty and insecurity. The purpose of this study is to argue that the dualistic nature of the Indonesian economy and the important role of the people's economy play an important role in explaining this phenomenon. Another phenomenon that must be considered is the wide regional variation, meaning that the economic and monetary crisis that has a negative impact on the Indonesian economy can be a "bonanza" for regions throughout Indonesia that produce export commodities. Regional variation, especially in the Human Development Index, also means that lagging regions in Indonesia should be able to learn from other regions that have better quality human resources. Finally, lessons can be learned from countries like India and China that have not liberalized their economies far enough. The 1997 crisis has taught Indonesia a hard lesson.
