Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of womens language in the short story collection Malam Terakhir by Leila S. Chudori. It employs theories of language, gender, and sociolinguistics. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with text analysis to understand the representation of women through language in Chudoris short stories. The analysis focuses on word choices, narratives, and writing styles employed by the author and the female characters in the stories. The findings indicate that the representation of women in Leila S. Chudoris short stories reflects the conflicts faced by women in dealing with social, familial, and internal pressures. Womens identities are portrayed through symbolism, dialogue, and narratives that highlight their struggles for freedom, question traditional norms, and resist patriarchal domination. These portrayals are evident in the characterization of female figures such as Adila, Sita, and Ilona, each presenting various forms of resistance against social expectations. Additionally, the representation of women is also conveyed through the use of setting, which often reflects the emotions and internal struggles of female characters in the stories.
