Abstract

Indonesia is an archipelagic country with around 17 thousand islands. In addition to being known as a country with many islands, Indonesia also holds the title of the 4th most populous country in the world. Having a relatively large population not only provides opportunities to improve people's welfare, but also presents significant challenges to people's welfare. Social, economic, and development inequality between regions are still major issues that are exacerbated by disparities in access to public services such as education, health, and employment. Several regions in Indonesia still have significant social inequality. In addition, each region certainly has different characteristics to be able to determine the factors of people's welfare. This study uses the K-Means cluster analysis method to group provinces in Indonesia in 2023 into more homogeneous clusters based on community welfare factors. The results of this study show that the data on community welfare factors are normally distributed, dependent, and have diverse characteristics. In addition, based on the provincial grouping, 15 provinces were included in cluster I, 12 provinces were included in cluster II, 6 provinces were included in cluster III, and 1 province was included in cluster IV. Five of the six variables had a significant effect on cluster grouping. This study is expected to be a basis for understanding weak welfare factors in various regions and help local governments identify areas with the lowest percentage of welfare and can be a reference in deciding policies or programs designed to improve community welfare.
