This article investigates how callousness is reflected in Mia Coutos flash fiction entitled The War of the Clowns. Being callous is effortless since it stops empathizing with people or their feelings. The War of the Clowns is a flash fiction that tells two clowns who are always on banter with each other. They do not pay much attention to people around them, all they do is fight and insult one another every day and it progressively turns worse. Through qualitative method and explorative approach, this paper explores how callousness also reflects lack of emotions between the clowns and everyone in the cities. It is eerie how the fighting of two clowns could spread to the slaughter of the whole city. In conclusion, Coutos story shows that callousness is the worst aspect of being in ignorance which could easily bring anger and even destruction to wider societies.
