Abstract

The development of information technology and social media has expanded the use of songs and music for various purposes, including product promotion, digital marketing, content creation, and business activities. However, public understanding of copyright protection, authors’ economic rights, and royalty payment obligations for commercial use of music requires further improvement. This situation may lead to copyright infringement and legal disputes between users and copyright creators or holders. This community service program aims to improve participants’ understanding of the scope of song copyright protection, forms of copyright infringement on social media, licensing and royalty payment mechanisms, and the legal consequences under Law No. 28 of 2014 on Copyright. The program is conducted at Universitas Pamulang through an educational approach involving presentations, interactive discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and participant knowledge assessments. The materials are based on applicable legislation and relevant literature concerning copyright protection in the digital era. The evaluation is designed to compare participants’ knowledge before and after the educational sessions and to assess their engagement during the activities. Actual evaluation results will be used to determine changes in participants’ understanding of lawful music use and respect for creators’ economic rights. This program is expected to strengthen legal awareness and encourage responsible digital practices in the use of musical works for both noncommercial and commercial purposes.
