Abstract


Waste management in urban areas is not only related to the availability of facilities and infrastructure but also to knowledge, behavior, community participation, and governance at the neighborhood level. Pasar Baru Urban Village, Karawaci District, Tangerang City, still faces challenges in the form of limited public understanding of waste segregation and waste reduction at the source, as well as suboptimal waste management governance at the neighborhood (RT/RW) level. This community service activity aims to improve community knowledge, skills, participation, and institutional capacity through the development of an Environmentally Smart Village. The activity employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, involving the community from the stages of problem identification, planning, implementation, to evaluation. Activities included observation and discussions with stakeholders, waste management education, waste segregation practices, organic and inorganic waste processing, greening activities, biopore construction, as well as strengthening environmental cadres and waste management institutions. The results showed an improvement in community understanding of waste types, the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), and simple methods of waste processing. The community also gained practical experience in composting, producing eco-enzyme, utilizing Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggots, and managing inorganic waste through a Waste Bank. At the neighborhood level, waste segregation practices have begun to emerge, with a pilot project implemented in 12 neighborhood units (RTs).
