Abstract
This Community Service program was conducted in Klasari Village, Moisegen District, Sorong Regency, Southwest Papua Province, to strengthen the capacity of the indigenous community in sustainable forest management and participatory mapping to support village development based on local wisdom. The target groups were the indigenous community, village government, customary leaders, youth groups, and women's groups of Klasari Village. The program was implemented through a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach comprising preparation, counseling, training in the use of Global Positioning System (GPS) and basic Geographic Information System (GIS), participatory mapping practice, mentoring, and evaluation. The results show an improvement in community knowledge of sustainable forest management, increased skills in participatory mapping and the use of simple technology, and greater participation of customary leaders, youth, and women's groups in natural resource management. The activity produced a participatory map and potential data for Klasari Village that can be used as a basis for village development planning. Overall, the program demonstrated positive initial impacts on strengthening indigenous community capacity and serves as a model of synergy between higher education, village government, and the indigenous community in supporting sustainable village development.
