Abstract

Urinary incontinence is one of the common health problems experienced by older adults, particularly women, due to weakening of the pelvic floor muscles. This condition not only affects physical function but may also reduce self-confidence and quality of life among older adults. One non-pharmacological approach that can be used to reduce urinary incontinence symptoms is Kegel exercises. This community service activity aimed to improve pelvic floor muscle strength and reduce the severity of urinary incontinence among older adults through Kegel exercise modality therapy. The activity was conducted at Wisma Anggrek, Panti Perlindungan dan Rehabilitasi Sosial Lanjut Usia (PPRSLU) Budi Sejahtera Banjarbaru, on October 27, 2025, and was attended by eight female older adults aged 60–78 years. The activity consisted of preparation, education on urinary incontinence and Kegel exercises, exercise implementation, and evaluation using the Revised Urinary Incontinence Scale (RUIS) before and after the intervention. The exercises were performed in sitting and lying positions, consisting of pelvic floor muscle contractions for 5 seconds followed by 10 seconds of relaxation, repeated 10 times per session. The evaluation results showed a decrease in the mean RUIS score from 8.0, categorized as moderate urinary incontinence, to 5.0, categorized as mild urinary incontinence, representing a 37.5% reduction in the score. In addition to physical improvements, the participants also demonstrated positive responses, including increased comfort, self-confidence, and motivation to continue the exercises independently.
