Abstract

This study aims to analyze students views on the phenomenon of looting during demonstrations and how they relate this phenomenon to Islamic principles. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach involving ten students from the Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Education at the Indonesia University of Education as informants. The results show that the majority of students strongly reject all forms of looting, whether from a moral, legal, or religious perspective. Students view looting as an act that undermines the main purpose of demonstrations, which is to convey aspirations peacefully and with dignity, and can tarnish the image of the student movement in the eyes of the public. In addition, they also have a critical awareness of the role of the media in shaping public opinion and understand that socioeconomic factors, provocation, and weak crowd control are the main causes of anarchic acts. From an Islamic perspective, looting is considered an act of injustice that is strictly prohibited because it violates the principles of justice and the rights of others. Thus, this study confirms that students have strong moral and religious awareness in assessing social phenomena and use Islamic values as the basis for their attitude towards demonstrations
